City of CoachellaApr 18Which item is illegal to throw in the trash? If you answered “This” for batteries, you were correct! It is illegal to throw batteries in the regular trash or recycling because they are considered hazardous waste. Chemicals in batteries can be released into the environment and contaminate our air, water, and possibly the food we eat. And by throwing hazardous waste in the garbage, you can cause additional hazards to your garbage handler. Instead, recycle old household batteries at the City of Coachella Utility Billing Office located at 1515 Sixth Street, Coachella.
