The Mayor is the chief elected officer of the City, The Mayor presides over City Council meetings and exercises those powers established in the City Municipal Code.
Mayor Eduardo Garcia was first elected to the Coachella City Council in November 2004. In 2006, at the age of 29 he became Coachella’s first elected Mayor. With re-lection tallies reaching up to eighty percent of the popular vote, Mayor Garcia has subsequently been re-elected for four terms.
Under the careful eye of Mayor Eduardo Garcia, the City of Coachella has been transformed from a proud migrant worker community into an emerging social, economic, political, and cultural hub.
By leveraging the Mayor's ability to be a consensus builder, his energy, perspective, and innovative spirit, the City of Coachella has attracted varied enterprise including partners from Agriculture and Arts to Energy and Tourism.
Emphasizing effective and efficient government, his administration has set a strong foundation for its rapid population growth.
By directing large City-wide park renovation, expanding green space, building, repairing and resurfacing streets, and a major overhaul of the City’s Downtown District, Mayor Garcia has established for Coachella a climate conducive to investment in among other sectors: business, health care, education and recreation.
A past Chairman of the CVAG Executive Committee, past Chairman of the Sunline Transit Agency, and past Chairman of the Coachella Valley Enterprise Zone, Mayor Garcia has worked with individual leaders and agencies throughout the nation that have resulted in major outside grants and regional funding for several high profile capital improvement projects from both the state and federal government. In fact, under Garcia’s watch the City has invested over 100 million dollars in public works projects.
Mayor Garcia has been a strong advocate for health and wellness and has partnered with the Flying Doctors and the Clinton Foundation to promote and build a healthier Coachella. This work has been recognized by the California Endowment for its exemplary model.
Mayor Garcia is a proud graduate of Coachella Valley High School and the University of California Riverside. In July 2008 Eduardo graduated from the “Senior Executives in State & Local Government” Public Administration Program from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and recently completed his Masters Degree from the University of Southern California School of Policy, Planning and Development.
A life-long resident of Coachella, Mayor Eduardo Garcia is a loving father, husband, friend, and colleague.
