The Mayor and City Council set overall policy and direction for the City. They exercise planning in the areas of:

  • Operational and financial management
  • Analyze public issues
  • Conduct public hearings and study sessions for citizens
  • Set policy through ordinances, resolutions, and motions

The City's programs and services are established by the adoption of the annual financial plan. New programs and services can only be approved by the City Council.

At their regular meeting December 4, 2014, the City Council of the City of Coachella reorganized. The current City Council is as follows:

Intergovernmental Relations

The Mayor and City Council hold a number of special assignments and appointments to various boards and commissions dealing with other government agencies. Intergovernmental relations include state/county relations, the Vector Control District, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), the League of California Cities, and other local agencies.


Form 806 - Report of Public Official Appointments

The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) requires each agency to post a Form 806 which reports additional compensation that officials receive when appointing themselves to positions on committees, boards or commissions of an intergovernmental public agency, special district, and joint power agency/authorities. Each agency must post a Form 806 listing all paid appointed positions including the date appointed, length of term and stipend amount received. (CA FPPC Reg. §18705.5)

The Form 806 will be amended when: 1) the number of scheduled meetings has changed; 2) there is a change in the compensation paid to the members; or 3) when the City Council makes a new appointment.

Maddy Act - Local Appointments List

Notice To The Public

In compliance with the requirements of the Maddy act, Government Code 54970, the following appointment list was posted prior to December 31. It shows all current members of City Commissions and Committees and the dates of their terms of office. Commissioners must be 18 years of age. Note: The names on this list are subject to change based on term expirations and resignations that occur during the year.
