Filter And Oil Recycling Challenge!

CVAG Announces 2015 Schedule of FREE Used Oil Filter Exchange Events

In 2014, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments hosted seven used oil filter exchange events throughout the Coachella Valley. The success of these events was amazing! Last year, Coachella Valley residents exchanged 1,208 used oil filters for free filters.

Let’s double those numbers at the 2015 events! The City of Coachella, in association with the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, will be hosting two used oil filter exchange events at the AutoZone located at 50-700 Harrison St. in Coachella on Sunday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring in your used oil filter and receive a coupon for a FREE oil filter (up to $6.99, coupon must be used during event). Also, don’t forget to bring in your used oil for recycling! In appreciation for your participation, you will receive an oil drainer container, shop rags, funnels, and other fun giveaways (while supplies last). If you can’t make this event, visit www.cvag.org for the complete schedule of 2015 Used Oil Filter Exchange Events. You do not have to be a resident of the city hosting the events. Events are open to all Coachella Valley residents.

Did you know that used motor oil never wears out? It just gets dirty and can be recycled, cleaned, and used again. Recycling used motor oil conserves a natural resource (oil) and is good for the environment too! Motor oil poured onto the ground or into storm drains, or tossed into trash cans (even in a sealed container) can contaminate and pollute the soil, groundwater, streams, and rivers.

What can you do to help prevent this pollution? Always recycle your used oil and used oil filters at the certified used oil collection center. You can find the most convenient center by visiting www.calrecycle.ca.gov or www.search.Earth911.com. Used oil filters can contain up to 8 ounces of oil and should be drained prior to recycling. Never place used oil or used oil filters in the trash!

Can’t make it to a Used Oil & Oil Filter Exchange Event? Don’t worry! You can contact Burrtec Waste & Recycling Services for curbside pick-up of your used motor oil and oil filters on your regular trash collection day at (760) 340-2113. Please call 24 hours in advance of your regular trash pick-up.
