City-Initiated Zone Change
The City of Coachella, in partnership with landowner, Peter Rabbit Farms, has initiated Change of Zone No. 18-10 and Environmental Assessment No. 18-04 to re-zone approximately 206 acres of vacant, agricultural, and partially-developed land into a mixture of Multifamily Residential, Neighborhood Commercial, General Commercial, Open Space, and Light Industrial districts with a plan for a future network of public streets, utility infrastructure, and drainage facilities. The project site is located on the west side of Tyler Street, south of Avenue 50.
This effort is being facilitated in order to comply with the City of Coachella's Certified Housing Element which calls for a capacity to accommodate future housing units for the growth of the City and the region. The Zona Central project itself will not allow any grading or construction activities, but will merely set the stage for future developers to submit development projects in a streamlined manner, under the parameters of a master-planned project.
Public Hearings for the Zona Central Re-Zoning Project will be held in October and November 2019. The links below are available to download the Environmental Assessment Documents for the project.
