“Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as best he can, the same cause.” – Abraham Lincoln

The City of Coachella strives to give back to those who serve, offering multiple programs and resources to commemorate veterans’ efforts. Together, we can honor the veterans and active duty personnel who have kept the United States secure.

Veterans Memorial Park

Veterans Memorial Park is a timeless commemoration for Coachella residents of past and present that have served their country. Soon, the park will be transformed to bring Coachella’s celebration of patriotism to life. The Veterans Amphitheater & Garden will feature a spacious lawn for events, all branches of military flags, a POW (Prisoners of War) flag, and military monument with brass seals recognizing the armed services. The Veterans Date Palm Grove & Rose Garden will serve as a median for the park, providing recreational resources for all ages and families. The Desert Garden, a final feature, will showcase the City of Coachella’s ability to bring water conservation and beauty together in a sophisticated manner.

Hero Walk

The Hero Walk will incorporate famous quotes engraved into pavement, creating an area of reflection and remembrance for all who pass by.

Supreme Sacrifice Monument

The Supreme Sacrifice monument will consist of a travertine tile engraved with a tribute for all those who have served the United States. This will complement the Hero Walk in its recognition of American veterans.

Granite, Travertine, and Tribute Tile Pavement

Similar to the Hero Walk, the tile pavement will feature engraved veterans names that pedestrians can pause and observe. In addition to the Veterans Memorial Fountain, the pavement will include a low travertine tile wall with engraved veterans names and local stories. This will bring Coachella’s legacy to life and educate future generations. If you are interested in submitting a veteran's name for engraving, please contact the City of Coachella at (760) 398-3502.

Arched Gateway Entry and Park Dedication Plaque

Freedom Flags for Families

flag

The City of Coachella takes great pride in the Coachella Valley residents who have defended our country. We aim to be a community that honors and welcomes military veterans along with their legacy.

A tribute program within the Coachella Valley is “Freedom Flags for Families”, which supports veterans and active duty military personnel. The program consists of hanging designated banners in public areas, containing the picture name and service information of the veteran and/or active service member. The families of the honoree, individuals, or community groups purchase the banners and receive them at a council meeting after being hung for one year.

This military banner program provides recognition to community members and their families for their service and sacrifice for the United States.
