The Development Services Department manages community planning, building and code enforcement and collaborates with property owners, business owners, design professionals, and City officials to improve the protection of public health and safety.

What We Do

Planning Division

The Planning Division provides advanced and current planning services including adoption of the general plan and specific plans, zoning and subdivision administration, sign regulations, and updating of Municipal Codes. Delivers environmental review services, and supports the Planning Commission and Public Arts Commission.

Building Division

The Building Division provides plan check, permitting, and inspection services for all new and proposed construction and structure remodeling activity in the City, including building, electrical work, plumbing, and mechanical work. Maintains and updates the City’s permit fee and development impact fee schedules.

Code Enforcement Division

The Code Enforcement Division is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the residents of the City of Coachella by enforcing Public Nuisance Ordinances. This Division is responsible for enforcing codes which address public health and safety issues, including regulations related to rubbish, garbage, specific nuisances, removal of vegetation, zoning, housing, dangerous buildings, and inoperable and unlicensed vehicles on public and private property. Enforcement actions are taken in response to requests for action received from residents.
